Check out the latest NOVA 3-part series on human evolution ("Becoming Human" http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/). How can any intellectually honest person deny the vast empirical evidence for natural selection of the modern human species?
But we humans are blinded by ideology (and ignorance)...

Atheists and agnostics are right in most of their thinking
It has been common among religious believers to look with misgiving at atheists and agnostics, and to think that they are mistaken; however, in many instances the opposite is the truth; some religious beliefs are not just irrelevant, but baseless. The “God” of main line traditions simply does not exist. I accepted the challenge of finding the One who may be recognized even by agnostics and atheists: the Existence itself. The God of religions may be denied, but nobody can deny that the Existence is. It doesn’t matter how you call it, but “All-That-Is,” is. A book (probably not written for you) “Christianity Reformed From ist Roots” tells all; perhaps its reflections will relieve your friends of the illusion, as they did for me. (Amazon.com).

Atheists note that few politicians have been willing to identify as non-theists, since until recently such revelations would have been "political suicide",[39][40] and welcomed Representative Pete Stark's 2007 decision to come out as the first openly nontheistic member of Congress.[22] Several polls have shown that about 50 percent of Americans would not vote for a well-qualified atheist for president.[41][42] A 2006 study found that 40% of respondents characterized atheists as a group that did "not at all agree with my vision of American society", and that 48% would not want their child to marry an atheist. In both studies, percentages of disapproval of atheists were above those for Muslims, African-Americans and homosexuals.[43]
See the rest on Wikipedia s.v. Discrimination towards Atheists. In posting the excerpt, I hope to enervate the movement so that we use our numbers and boycott establishments where atheists are viewed as godless fiends soon to be burning in hell and "hence" deserving of nothing, not even civil rights. This view and the like arbitrarily select a group from the population and subject it to unjustifiable abuses of their civil rights. There is power in numbers, but without utilizing its power, atheism will never develop into an Institution for the betterment of society. Remember always egalitarian is the way to go. Show yourselves to the public as you are. Let the "suicides" begin.

After a recent road trip through the heart of the USA, I found very few things to be truly proud of. In many of our states the condition of the towns and homes I saw was deplorable. There were certain regions that looked little better than third world countries, especially in the "dust bowl" regions. Many of these people are living on less than 20,000.00/year and can not afford to improve/renovate their properties, leaving them in such an unsightly condition. Many old farm houses were abandoned (obviously many years ago) after being taken over by corporations and left to collapse and rot.
It seems ironic that in these areas that are the most economically depressed seem to have a lot more churches than other areas. Some areas that were particularly poor sported many billboards about religion, one of the most memorable was something like "Accept Jesus and you will be saved or you will regret it forever". Threats and fear seem to be the most popular (and possibly effective) form of coercion by religion, as does taking advantage of the underprivileged with promises of a better eternal life. Personally I have a hard time taking either seriously. While it is true that, for some, trading the price of a case or two of beer for some lumber and paint would greatly improve their conditions, this is not always the case.
I am getting very tired of hearing these "sob stories" from people making over 250,000.00/year. They complain that a tax increase would make it impossible to renovate their McMansions, to eat out at over priced restaurants or to take vacations to places like Martha's Vineyard. The majority of their problems are usually self inflicted by over extending their credit, how much is enough when people in other areas are forced to choose between eating and living indoors? There seem to be a lot of claims about "tithing" to their church, generally these are very large churches that do little or nothing to alleviate the suffering of anyone and only benefit the church and it's hierarchy. Pastors living in mansions, driving expensive cars and using their private jets to do "God's work" (which usually is something that will supplement their own income). If these people would scale back a little, let their children pay for their own college education (which might make them appreciate and utilize it) and basically live within their means (and quit trying to impress others with their "wealth" they claim they do not have) they would not have the hardships they currently face (such as not being able to put in a new pool on their estate this year...).
I don't have a household income of 250,000/year or more but it's over 100,000.00/year. This has given my roommate and me the freedom to have a very nice (yet modest) home in Minnesota and an almost new vacation/retirement home (also very nice but modest) in Arizona and a new (modest) car. I will probably not be affected by "Obama's tax increase", but if I were to be and it helped the people in these areas, it would be worth it. People making enough to be affected by the increases would do well to take a ride in their Infinity, Mercedes, Jaguar or whatever their overpriced mode of transportation may be, and see for themselves "how the other half lives". I am far from a "Socialist" but think that at least making life more than just hanging out waiting to die (with the empty hope of eternal bliss or empty threats of eternal fire) is important for people in some of these areas.

I'm sorry that you are athiests. Your pride has blinded your eyes and hardened your hearts. I venture to guess that 90% of you attended Sunday School as children. What became of you? Listen to Jesus knock at the door of your heart. Open the door. Receive your new heart. Be changed forever. Avoid Hell.
